From the Editor:

In my role as the Chair of the EA Special Interest Group for the Australian Computer Society, I get to meet and talk to some of the world’s best practitioners in the Enterprise Architecture discipline. At times, that includes the running of webinars where people can hear from these individuals and learn from their experience. As I run these events, I hope to be able to share these sessions with you. I hope you find them useful.

Webinar – Design Thinking and Enterprise Architecture

On November 29 2016, I was able to spend some time with Craig Martin, CEO and Founder of DesignChain and TribalMind. Craig is a highly experienced practitioner in the Business Architecture space, but has recently turned his attention to Design Thinking and how it can be applied within the space where Enterprise Architecture is traditionally found.

Introduction

Innovation and creativity have never been more vital to business, the ability to take new perspectives when it comes to problem solving is a sought after skill. Organisations need new solutions to improve their speed to market, but how do you know which great idea is going to work without going through three years of development and using up large amounts of budget and resources in the process?

Organisations need a tool to equip their teams of business analysts, architects and project managers that will deliver more creative solutions in shorter turnaround times, from the perspective of their customers, colleagues and stakeholders.

Craig and the team at DesignChain have developed “Design in Business”, a Design Thinking course that introduces individuals and teams to design tools that will help them be more human-centered in their approach to problem solving. Attendees of this webinar will learn about design tools used in launching new products and services to market, along with how to leverage these tools to support strategic planning, business analysis, architecture and agile delivery.
