Business Architecture is Critical for Organizations that Predate the Digital Economy

Organizations that predate the digital economy need to architect themselves to flourish in it. According to the The MIT Center for Information Systems Research (MIT CISR), they need a business architecture that defines the “processes, structures, roles, incentives and IT systems” for both stable operations and innovation. Unfortunately, MIT CISR reports that while most companies they surveyed have business architecture functions, most of them are located within IT, and most business architects they surveyed “are struggling to gain traction outside the IT unit”.
